AOC is right Fox & Rush Limbaugh are wrong. The Pentagon misplaced $21 TRILLION! AOC did not misspeak or “lie” and yes, $21 Trillion is a valid number, no matter how insane it sounds. It comes from a July 26, 2016, report from the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) called “Army General Fund Adjustments Not Adequately Documented or Supported”.

The Nation Magazine did a long article on this topic and AOC was probably quoting from that or a similar source, because this is not a new number and crazy as it may seem, it is NOT fake news. From the article: “In all, at least a mind-boggling $21 trillion of Pentagon financial transactions between 1998 and 2015 could not be traced, documented, or explained, concluded Skidmore. To convey the vastness of that sum, $21 trillion is roughly five times more than the entire federal government spends in a year. It is greater than the US Gross National Product, the world’s largest at an estimated $18.8 trillion. And that $21 trillion includes only plugs that were disclosed in reports by the Office of Inspector General, which does not review all of the Pentagon’s spending.”

So her numbers were accurate. They have been out for more than a year and AOC was probably quoting the recent The Nation Magazine article… because on top of everything else she reads. I’m not for censorship but I sure do wish there was an intelligent and honest radio program that got as much nationwide coverage as Rush Limbaugh 🙁 The level of stupid disinformation being spread by both right-wing talk radio shows and Fox News is mind-numbing.

Forbes Magazine also did an article on this topic that back in 2017
